MHP-PRO · PEAKING PROTOCOL

The MHP-PRO Method

A peaking protocol for athletes with a target date — one cycle, written backwards from competition day.

MHP-PRO is not a training plan; it is a protocol. It answers one specific question: how do I bring this athlete to a peak on that day?

Most plans are written forwards from the calendar. MHP-PRO is written backwards from competition day — seven phases, each with one job, each handing over to the next.

It is separate from The MHP Method, which builds the multi-year path for youth groups. That one is about growth; this one is about peaking. Neither derives from the other.

AGE REQUIREMENT

This protocol is for ages 18 and over

MHP-PRO has two categories: senior and junior U20. For under-18s the source document is explicit — no program is written, because its numbers are not validated for a growing body. This is one of the protocol's twelve red flags, not a preference.

Under-18 athletes have their own path: the club's youth groups, which take members from age five with parental consent and run under direct coach supervision.

SEVEN PHASES

Seven phases

Each phase has one job. Their order is not optional.

  1. ANATOMICAL ADAPTATION

    Phase 0 · Structural adaptation

This phase does not aim to raise performance; it prepares the body's structure to accept the loads that follow.

  2. GENERAL PHYSICAL PREPARATION

    Phase 1 · General preparation

The accumulation block. Building the base capacities and volume that later become strength and power.

  3. SPECIFIC PHYSICAL PREPARATION I

    Phase 2 · Specific preparation

The transmutation block. Turning base strength into wrestling-specific strength and explosive power.

  4. PEAKING

    Phase 3 · Peaking

Peak intensity, minimum volume, maximum specificity. The most delicate phase of the cycle.

  5. TAPERING

    Phase 4 · Taper

Volume comes down while intensity holds, so fatigue leaves and readiness stays. The taper does not stretch.

  6. COMPETITION

    Phase 5 · Competition

Managing the space between bouts: nutrition, recovery, maintenance work and match-day mental readiness.

  7. TRANSITION

    Phase 6 · Transition

Neither full rest nor active training — a psychological and physical bridge between cycles. Skipping it is a leading cause of overtraining.

THE SAFETY GATE

The safety gate

Before any program, a judgment stage decides whether a program can be written at all. Twelve stop conditions are written in code and covered by tests — not left as advice.

  • With a red flag, no program is issued — none. Not "a light microcycle", not "just this for now".

  • No number is invented. Every threshold and rate comes from the protocol itself; what was not measured is reported as unmeasured, never as zero.

  • The questionnaire is recomputed. What the athlete writes is the starting point, not the conclusion.

ELIGIBILITY

Who it is for

A GOOD FIT

  • Competitive wrestlers with a specific target competition on the calendar
  • Serious athletes who want an individual program and regular monitoring, not an off-the-shelf plan
  • Anyone with medical clearance who is willing to log their data consistently

NOT A FIT

  • Under 18 — without exception
  • Anyone seeking rapid weight loss before a competition; the prohibited weight-cutting methods are absolutely not accepted in this method
  • Anyone unwilling to log weight, sleep and training load — without data there is no monitoring

HOW IT STARTS

How it starts

  1. 1

    Questionnaire

You complete the full MHP-PRO questionnaire in the club's Telegram bot: competition calendar, strength history, injury and health, weight and recovery.

  2. 2

    Assessment

Your answers pass through the safety gate, which determines which phase you can start from — or what must arrive first before you can.

  3. 3

    Consultation

The result is reviewed with you: which phase you start from, what must be resolved first, and what the program will look like. Cost is quoted at the end of that session — not before it.

Limitations

Injury assessment, treatment and return-to-sport clearance belong with a sports physician; individual nutrition, supplements and anti-doping with a sports nutritionist; psychological intervention with a sports psychologist. This protocol replaces none of them and refers out wherever it should.

Start with the questionnaire

Admission follows assessment. If you do not meet the protocol's conditions, you will be told so honestly.

Cost is quoted after assessment, matched to the individual program.
